LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch today released the following rapid response document fact checking the false claims Alison Lundergan Grimes made regarding the farm bill and crop insurance.

Grimes Claimed That Crop Insurance Was Affected By The Temporary Lapsing Of The Farm Bill, Yet Mandatory Programs Do Not Expire. “Crop insurance is an example of a permanently authorized and funded mandatory program that does not expire.” (Jim Monke, Randy Alison Aussenberg, Megan Stubbs, “Expiration and Extension of the 2008 Farm Bill,” Congressional Research Service, 12/16/13)

Alison Lundergan Grimes: “No one was disadvantaged. I take issue with Senator McConnell’s very statement. You see I’ve been in the western part of the state and seen the eyes of a burly farmer swell up with tears at the thought of not having crop insurance.” (Alison Lundergan Grimes, Remarks Kentucky Farm Bureau, 8/20/14)
