LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch today is proud to announce that two American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) correction officer locals, based in Clay and McCreary Counties, have endorsed Senator McConnell for re-election.
In an unprecedented move, these Eastern Kentucky locals endorsed Sen. McConnell in recognition of his history of legislative and constituent service to them and fidelity in standing with them in protecting Kentucky families.
“The Council of Prisons Local 4051 at Federal Correctional Institution (F.C.I.) Manchester, KY is proud to support Senator Mitch McConnell for reelection for United States Senator of Kentucky,” said Stephen Creech, First Vice President of the Clay County local. “Throughout the years, it has always been a common misconception that Republicans are against Unions and especially Federal Employees. We have found this to be the farthest thing from the truth. Senator McConnell and his staff have always had an open door to us. The Senator recognizes the important and dangerous task that we face as Federal Law Enforcement Officers with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and has always given us the support we asked for.”
“The Council of Prisons Local 614 at United States Penitentiary (U.S.P.) McCreary in Pine Knot, KY proudly support and stand with Senator Mitch McConnell,” said Local 614 Vice President Sam Kitchen. “The Local Union at U.S.P. McCreary has reached out to Senator McConnell's Office on several occasions with safety and security concerns. In every circumstance, Senator McConnell has taken a personal interest in our safety and has gone above and beyond for the staff of the United States Penitentiary. It is for these reasons and many more that local Union 614 is honored to support Senator McConnell in the November election.”
Mr. Creech concludes his letter of endorsement by saying “we proudly and publicly stand with Senator McConnell in voicing our support. We feel that Senator McConnell is doing what he does best…taking care of the people of Kentucky. “
Upon receiving this unprecedented Kentucky labor endorsement, Sen. McConnell said, “It is a distinct honor to have the support of these Eastern Kentucky locals. Though theirs is a dangerous and often thankless profession, these federal corrections officers exemplify the best qualities of public service in our mountain counties by risking their lives daily to protect Kentucky families from some of the nation's most violent offenders housed in our federal prisons. I find having their support to be a particularly high honor, and I look forward to continue to work alongside these brave Kentucky law enforcement officers.”
