LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch today released the following statement and background information on Alison Lundergan Grimes’ refusal to defend Kentucky coal after her staff and liberal donors said she was lying about her support for the industry.
"It's hard to imagine how Alison Lundergan Grimes could remain silent after these videos surfaced of her staff and supporters suggesting she's anti-coal. The reality is that Alison Lundergan Grimes' 'lying game,' as her supporters refer to it, has caught up to her and she can no longer claim she's pro-coal when everyone around her privately admits she isn't," said Team Mitch spokeswoman Allison Moore.

New Undercover Video Shows Max Out Grimes Donor Saying Grimes Will F**K Coal As Soon As She Gets Elected. “A top donor to Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’ Senate campaign is convinced that she will work to destroy the coal industry if elected in November. “She’s gonna fuck ‘em as soon as she gets elected,” New York City real estate mogul Niko Elmaleh told an undercover videographer with the group Project Veritas Action at a recent Grimes event. Elmaleh gave the maximum $2,600 to Grimes’ campaign in June.” (“Grimes Donor on Kentucky Coal: ‘She’s Gonna F**k ‘Em’,” Washington Free Beacon, 10/7/14)
Niko Elmaleh Says That Grimes Can’t “Say It Straight Up” Her True Feelings On Coal. ““She can’t say it straight up,” Elmaleh says in the video. “She’s going to do what she has to do to get elected and then she’s gonna fuck ‘em.” “Trust me,” Elmaleh added. “She’s a killer.” (“Grimes Donor on Kentucky Coal: ‘She’s Gonna F**k ‘Em’,” Washington Free Beacon, 10/7/14)
First Undercover Video Shows Kentucky Democrats Saying Grimes Is Lying About Coal Support
Undercover Video Shows Kentucky Democrats Saying Grimes Past Statements On Coal “Do Not Reflect Grimes’ Real Views. “A video from James O’Keefe’s “Project Veritas” includes secretly recorded conversations with Kentucky Democrats who say that Grimes’ statements in defense of the coal industry are necessary to get elected but do not reflect Grimes’ real views.” (“Conservative activist says Grimes coal views don't reflect 'real' views,” WHAS, 10/7/14)
Former Auditor Crit Luallen: “She’s just go to do what she’s got to do to get elected.” “Former Kentucky auditor Crit Luallen is seen on the video explaining Grimes’ coal strategy to an O’Keefe plant posing as a Grimes supporter. “So between the market forces and what he’s already done, this is not like a big hook hanging over our heads – because it’s already going in the right direction,” Luallen said. “She’s just go to do what she’s got to do to get elected.” (“Conservative activist says Grimes coal views don't reflect 'real' views,” WHAS, 10/7/14)
· Grimes Campaign Is Using Crit Luallen For A Robocall. “Former state Auditor Crit Luallen is helping the campaign of Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes with a round of robocalls, an automated voice message supporting the policies of Grimes. Luallen says the call is on the behalf of the Kentucky Democratic Party — who is helping run a coordinated campaign for Grimes. (Nick Storm, “Fmr. Auditor Crit Luallen helping Grimes with round of robocalls,” CN2, 9/19/14)
Grimes Staffer Says She Will Support Environmental Action Against Kentucky Coal If She Gets Into Office. “But one man speaking to the undercover plants is identified as a Grimes campaign field organizer and he too states that her support for the industry is part of a bigger picture. “She’s trying to get votes in that sense from parts of Kentucky that that’s appealing to. But once she gets in, she’s going to be realistic about the fact that there are environmental problems and she will do her part, you know in that sense, to support those things,” the man, identified as Grimes campaign field organizer Chase Sanders, tells one of the undercover operatives.” (Jacqueline Pitts, “Report shows Democratic operatives around the state downplaying Grimes' support for coal,” CN2, 10/6/14)
Kentucky Coal Association President Bill Bissett Says The Video “Especially Troubling” Given Her Connections To President Obama And Harry Reid
Kentucky Coal Association President Bill Bissett Calls The Video “Deeply Concerning”. ““This video is very concerning. While the Kentucky Coal Association (KCA) has been critical of Secretary Grimes’ lack of specificity in how she would do a better job than Sen. McConnell in defending Kentucky coal and our coal miners, the Grimes’ campaign staff’s suggestions that her positive public comments are simply message points and do not represent her true feelings about coal are especially troubling. Combined with her past support of President Obama and her ongoing connection to anti-coal Sen. Harry Reid, the comments against Kentucky coal by multiple campaign officials in different counties make me question her actual positions on coal.” (Press Release, “STATEMENT OF KCA PRESIDENT BILL BISSETT REGARDING THE PROJECT VERITAS’ VIDEO FROM INSIDE THE GRIMES CAMPAIGN AND COMMENTS MADE BY FORMER KENTUCKY AUDITOR CRIT LUALLEN,” Kentucky Coal Association, 10/6/14)
Bissett: The Video “Reflects Badly” On The Grimes Campaign And “Demonstrates A Fundamental Lack Of Understanding Of Kentucky”. “To call the many voters of Kentucky who understand the direct connection between coal production and use to our economy “stupid” not only reflects badly on the policy positions of the Grimes campaign, but also demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding of Kentucky, its economy and its people.” (Press Release, “STATEMENT OF KCA PRESIDENT BILL BISSETT REGARDING THE PROJECT VERITAS’ VIDEO FROM INSIDE THE GRIMES CAMPAIGN AND COMMENTS MADE BY FORMER KENTUCKY AUDITOR CRIT LUALLEN,” Kentucky Coal Association, 10/6/14)
