Sen. McConnell Has The “Experience And Influence” Kentucky Needs

LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch released the following background information on the Cincinnati Enquirer’s endorsement of Sen. Mitch McConnell today.

Cincinnati Enquirer: Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate  (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)

BACKGROUND

Cincinnati Enquirer: “McConnell does have experience and influence in Washington, as well as a thorough command of the policy and security issues the country faces.” (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)

Cincinnati Enquirer: “It means something for a state to have the No. 1 (or 2) guy in the Senate.” (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)

Sen. McConnell Offers “Cogent Analysis” On The Issues, While Grimes Gives “Labored” Answers Relying On Key Words. “A particularly telling moment in the campaign came in the Oct. 13 debate, when both candidates were asked to describe the proper role of government in people’s lives. While Grimes labored to include key words like “the women of Kentucky” and “my grandmothers” in her response, McConnell delivered a cogent analysis of the role of the U.S. Senate in protecting the country and its framework from too much government, so that citizens have an opportunity to pursue their ambitions.” (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)

Cincinnati Enquirer On Alison Lundergan Grimes

Grimes Has Run A “Guarded, Consultant-Driven Campaign” That Fails To Offer Alternatives. “It’s often been a dispiriting campaign. Grimes has served in public office – as Kentucky secretary of state – for just two years, though she did grow up in a political family, and her guarded, consultant-driven campaign has been laser-focused on bashing McConnell rather than offering alternatives.” (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)

Cincinnati Enquirer: Its Difficult To Get A Sense Of Who Grimes Truly Is And What She Stands For. “As for Grimes, it’s been difficult to break through the rehearsed attacks and get a sense of who she truly is and what she stands for. With a thin record of public service, she needed to deliver an impassioned argument for why an inexperienced newcomer deserves a shot at such an important job. Instead, voters got a campaign that was carefully packaged and tailored to meet focus-group expectations.” (Editorial, “Endorsement: McConnell for U.S. Senate,” Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/24/14)
