LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch today released the following statement and background information on the bus company cited by Alison Lundergan Grimes confirming her “sweetheart deal.”
"In case anyone had any doubt Alison Lundergan Grimes was getting a sweetheart deal from her father's business on her bus, now the very company she used to justify her actions says she is receiving a 'sweetheart deal,’” said Team Mitch spokeswoman Allison Moore. “There are a ton of unanswered questions about the role her family's corporate holdings have in her campaign that Kentuckians deserve answers to immediately."
Star Coach VP Dan Neuen Called The Small Amount The Grimes Campaign Paid For Their Campaign Bus “A Sweetheart Deal”. “One company, Star Coach in Atlanta, said the $456-a-day rate was legitimate. But Dan Neuen, the company's vice president of operations, said he would have charged the campaign every day regardless of whether they used the bus. "If they're paying 11 grand to have that bus wrapped for 266 days and use it however many days they want to use it? That's a sweetheart deal," Neuen said.” (Adam Beam, “Bus rental spat comes as Senate candidates meet,” Associated Press, 8/20/14)
“Star Coach advertises that it leases a Prevost model of a similar year between $350 and $750 per day. The Star Coach website states, “Our fleet of nearly 50 coaches offers clients a wide variety and spectrum of coaches from our least expensive models (2000-2002 Prevost H3-45 non slide outs) to our brand new and high end specialty coaches such as ‘star configuration’ (coaches with a rear bedroom suite)…Generally, our entire fleet will fall in the range of $350 / day up to $750 / day.” [Star Coach, accessed 8/19/14]” (Press Release, “Comparable Rates For Buses Show The Grimes Bus Is Well Within Market Rates,” Alison For Kentucky, 8/19/14)
