LOUISVILLE – Team Mitch today released the following statement from spokeswoman Allison Moore in response to Alison Lundergan Grimes’ latest radio ad and her belated concern for Kentucky coal.

"It is a fact that Alison Lundergan Grimes lined up as a delegate behind Barack Obama after he announced he would wage a war on coal and said nothing as thousands of Kentuckians lost their jobs. Her belated concern about the war on coal now that she's a candidate, after helping to ensure it by backing Obama, is insulting and transparently political."

In 2008 Obama Said That Building A Coal Fired Plant Will Bankrupt You. “So if somebody wants to build a coal fired plant they can, its just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that is being emitted.” (Marcus Chan, “An interview with Sen. Barack Obama,” San Francisco Chronicle, 1/17/08)

Alison Lundergan Grimes: “I Do” Support The Democrat Party Platform

VIDEO: When Asked If She Supported The Democratic Party Platform, Grimes Said “I Do …” REPORTER: “So I’m going to ask you this. Do you support the National Democratic party platform?” GRIMES: “I do, Jim. Unlike my opponent, I am a lifelong Democrat, born and raised, and proud to stand up and say I’m a Democrat and running on the Democratic party ticket.” (Alison Lundergan Grimes, Interview With James Pence, 3/21/11)

2008 Platform: “We Will Implement A Market-Based Cap And Trade System.” “Global climate change is the planet's greatest threat, and our response will determine the very future of life on this earth. Despite the efforts of our current Administration to deny the science of climate change and the need to act, we still believe that America can be earth's best hope. We will implement a market-based cap and trade system to reduce carbon emissions by the amount scientists say is necessary to avoid catastrophic change and we will set interim targets along the way to ensure that we meet our goal.” (2008 Democratic Party Platform, “Renewing America’s Promise,” 8/25/08)
